Slight Risk For Severe Weather Sunday

Happy New Year! And with that comes Tallahassee's first shot at severe weather for the year, as well. Initially, the NWS had us at a marginal risk, but yesterday they bumped it up to slight risk for Sunday. The development of low pressure over central Alabama or Georgia along the front will increase our chances locally to see some severe weather out of this. Currently, the HRRR and RAP models are indicating the main line will push through around 9-10 pm Sunday. However, it is also showing convection ahead of the main line, which are ones to watch as well, as they can initiate severe storms. Because of the guidance model's history of slowing this line down, expect a squall line to arrive after 7 pm Sunday but by midnight.

Temperatures will remain near 80 Sunday in our area and dew points will be in the upper 60s which will feel very spring-like until this front passes and the temperatures begin to tank. For Sunday, keep your devices charged and make sure to have your weather alerts on your phones and tablets turned on in case anything is issued. Stay safe everyone!
