Frigid Temperatures Coming to Florida This Saturday

So far, January has been a pretty cold one for North Florida. But if you think it's been freezing, you ain't seen nothing yet. This weekend, particularly Saturday, we will be experiencing the coldest temperatures we have had so far this season. The jet stream will be digging very far south and bringing with it a frigid, arctic airmass all the way from Northern Canada with it. The GFS upper-level model is indicating very fast winds aloft over Florida early Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, guidance models show a low at the surface with a very tight pressure gradient. With the strengthening low (with help from the jet stream) and the tight gradient causing somewhat breezy conditions, this will help bring in the colder air into the state.

The GFS model is also thinking temperatures in the Big Bend and South Georgia areas will be in the 20's. However, it will feel much colder as the wind chill will make it feel like we are in the teens. We should also not forget how dry it will be outside, so make sure you are prepared for the proper attire for the occasion! Thankfully, the arctic air mass will be moving through fairly quickly, and by Sunday we will begin to warm back up into the 50's.

So all in all, yes, it will be extremely cold for one day, but if it will be a beautiful, sunny weekend so enjoy it as long as you can keep warm outdoors! As always, a friendly reminder to bring indoors all sensitive plants as well as pets!
